Type Locality and Naming

Western Middle Tianshan. The Tekes Gr was named by Tan Hongbing and Li Yingyi in 1976 and published by Tan Hongbing in 1977. The typical section is on the east bank of Koksu River valley, south of Tekes County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region).

Synonym: (特克斯群)


Lithology and Thickness

The thick Lower part of the group (Toudaoqiao Fm) is composed of low-grade metamorphosed clastic rock, dominated by schist, but the thin Upper part (Machanggou Fm) is dominated by carbonate (dolomitic) rock intercalated with minor clastic rock. The Tekes Group is 3075 m thick

Shallow-marine marl


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Bottom is not seen. Regionally, the next older unit is the Talati Gr (PaleoProterozoic)

Upper contact

The top is in disconformable contact with overlying Koksu Group, and locally in an unconformable contact.

Regional extent

Western Middle Tianshan. The group is distributed on Halajun Mountain, the north slope of Haleiketao Mountain, Tekes and Zhaosu counties, Xinjiang.

Fossils

The carbonate rock bears rich stromatolites, such as Gruneria f., Kussiella f.
